Synopsis
This study provides an in-depth analysis of the impact of neoliberalism on the religious life of Turkish society. The central issue addressed is how neoliberal policies, by promoting individualism and economic success, have eroded social solidarity and traditional religious values. The primary objective of the study is to examine the effects of neoliberalism’s economic and social transformations on religious practices and to explain the tendencies toward individualization that have emerged in this process.
The research is based on a qualitative methodology supported by a literature review and analysis of existing data. By examining economic data, dynamics of social change, and transformations in religious practices in Turkey, the study highlights the social shifts that have paralleled neoliberal policies. The unique value of this work lies in its comprehensive approach, addressing not only the economic impacts of neoliberalism but also its reflections in social and religious spheres. Specifically, it sheds light on the profound effects of individualized, success-driven religious interpretations on society, making a significant contribution to the existing literature.
The study discusses the future implications of social decay and value erosion caused by neoliberal policies. It emphasizes the necessity of reconstructing alternative social and religious values and advocates for a religious perspective centered on social solidarity and justice. Rebuilding the education system to promote collective values is proposed as a strategy to instill a sense of social responsibility in younger generations. In conclusion, this study not only reveals the adverse effects of neoliberalism on the religious life of Turkish society but also provides insights into strategies for addressing these challenges in the future.
