Synopsis
Türkiye is among the developing countries that both increase environmental pollution and are negatively affected by this increase, with its robust population structure and huge economic volume. From this point of view, correctly identifying the factors affecting environmental degradation and understanding the historical course of the energy supply-demand balance are critical in creating sustainable environmental and energy policies. The fact that energy policies will affect not only living beings today but also future generations further increases the importance of this issue. Therefore, this study aims to provide a general framework for energy policies by examining the general appearance of Türkiye's energy markets from a historical perspective and to contribute to sustainable development goals. According to the findings, a management approach prioritizes increasing energy efficiency, encourages renewable energy resources, and attaches importance to technological innovations, and international cooperation is an essential strategic suggestion for policymakers. Such an approach will reduce external dependency on energy and environmental damage by strengthening energy supply security. As a result, this study has concluded that Türkiye’s energy vision for the following second century should include more comprehensive strategies that prioritize economic development and consider sustainability.
