Synopsis

With globalization, the increase in international trade has led to a significant rise in foreign direct investments. Especially developing countries have offered various incentives to foreign investors in order to have much needed capital accumulation, access modern technology they lack, reduce unemployment rates, and accelerate economic growth by increasing exports. Although the Republic of Türkiye has occasionally displayed different approaches towards foreign investments throughout its hundred-year history since its establishment, it has generally pursued moderate policies. This study will examine the development of foreign direct capital investments in the first hundred years of the Republic of Türkiye, the policies implemented to attract FDI, and the sectoral distribution of FDI to the extent permitted by available data.
