Synopsis
The industrialization process of the Republic of Türkiye over the past 100 years has undergone numerous phases. This process has been shaped by economic, political, and social transformations, showing significant progress in line with the country's development goals. In the early years of the Republic, efforts were made to modernize the economic structure inherited from the Ottoman Empire. The 1930s marked a period of state-led industrialization, while the 1950s and 1960s saw a shift toward private sector-driven industrialization efforts. The 1960s are often referred to as the era of planned development, characterized by systematic economic planning. Following the 1980s, Türkiye adopted a free-market economy and pursued industrialization within the framework of an export-oriented growth model. The late 1990s and early 2000s witnessed economic crises, but subsequent reforms enabled steady growth in industrial production. Since the 2010s, high-technology-based industrialization strategies have become a primary focus for the Republic of Türkiye.
