Synopsis

Businesses aiming to enhance their effectiveness in global markets and gain a competitive edge are currently placing significant emphasis on R&D activities. Innovative products resulting from R&D efforts are protected for certain periods under patent protection, making R&D and patents strategically important for businesses. However, in recent years, factors such as the rise in patent lawsuits, the shortening of product life cycles, the development of imitation technologies, and the emergence of high-density markets where patent laws are not enforced have led to the questioning of traditional R&D strategies. This study examines perspectives on these issues and discusses the challenges businesses are expected to face in the future regarding R&D and patent processes, as well as the methods they can employ to address these challenges. It is anticipated that the importance of strategic collaborations, clustering, technology transfer, and customer databases will increase in the coming years. Businesses that implement flexible, project-oriented R&D structures and engage in effective strategic planning aligned with their R&D vision are expected to maintain their competitive advantage and sustain their operations.
