Synopsis

In recent years, following international organizations and meetings, environmental and sustainability awareness has begun to increase in societies. Since nature is what is permanent, it is imperative for people to act in a way that will cause the least harm to the environment in their vital activities such as production and consumption. In addition to individual awareness, it is an undeniable fact that the state should take deterrent and incentive measures that will affect social motivation. The environment, which should be transferred to future generations with the least harm, concerns all humanity as a global public good. The decrease in rainforests is not only a problem of those countries. Ecotourism, which is increasingly gaining interest within nature tourism, also requires local people and tourists to be conscious. As tourism activities increase, central and local governments can impose more financial obligations on tourists and travel agencies in order to manage and minimize the economic, environmental and infrastructural effects of mass tourism. The sole purpose of taxes in modern states is not to provide financing for public activities. Taxes have the power to affect all economic decisions of individuals and companies. In this context, the polluter pays principle is applied in order to protect the environment and transfer it to the future with the least harm. Today, tax policies taken to combat global warming are included in the extra-fiscal functions of taxes. Since meetings and posters held to increase environmental awareness are not sufficient, policies such as tax, borrowing, financing, and combating negative externalities must be used effectively and widely. This study explains applicable financial policies for ecotourism to serve a sustainable environment. In addition to local policies, the principled decisions taken by relevant international organizations will not only protect the environment but also bring about the spread of ecotourism. In addition, Turkey's potential in the field of ecotourism and the steps to be taken in terms of sustainable tourism will be examined.
