Synopsis

The technological revolution that started in the 1990s affected many aspects of human life and also initiated the process of digitalization of public administrations. Then, with the integration of technology into urban life, the smart city model emerged, which can be seen as a solution tool for urban problems. The rapid increase in the urban population brought with it some urban problems. The idea of ​​solving these emerging problems with the help of technology led to the emergence of the smart city model. In the smart city model, which can be expressed as the process of integrating information and communication technologies into urban life, sustainability is emphasized and the satisfaction of citizens is at the forefront. Smart cities need to have certain components to achieve these goals. These components are “smart economy, smart people, smart life, smart environment and smart governance”. In this direction, the aim of the study was determined as a conceptual analysis by examining the emergence and emergence of smart cities and their components. First of all, the concept of urban smartness was examined in the study, then the emergence and development of the smart city concept, the definition and analysis of smart cities were discussed. The components of smart cities were examined in the last section of the study. The study was prepared by scanning the literature by adopting a quantitative method.
