Synopsis

In this book titled Current Public Administration Practices, some currently prominent issues that are discussed in terms of the public administration discipline are discussed. Smart cities, social capital, artificial intelligence, urban resilience and the future of the public administration discipline are the main topics included in the book. The sections and their contents created depending on the mentioned headings can be generally summarized as follows.

In the section titled “Digitalization of Cities and Smart Cities: Their Emergence and Components”, the concepts and scopes of urban smartness and smart city are discussed first. Then, the definition, analysis and components of smart cities are revealed by reviewing the literature.

In the section titled "The Concept of Social Capital as an Element of Good Management and Its Place in Turkish Administrative History", the concept of social capital, types of social capital and the relationship between social capital and establishing good governance are discussed.  In this context, the impact of the dominant understanding of social capital in Turkish society on the creation of good governance is analyzed from a historical perspective.

In the study titled "Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation in Public Administration", the concept of artificial intelligence and its uses in public administration are touched upon. On the other hand, digital transformation in public administration in the context of artificial intelligence is also explained within the framework of public policies, human resources, public service, challenges and legal regulations. In the study, Türkiye's application in terms of artificial intelligence is briefly included in the context of the Presidential Digital Transformation Office and the subject is presented with some examples.

The urban resilience approach of the Twelfth Development Plan is examined under the title "A Study on the Urban Resilience Approach of the Twelfth Development Plan".  In this context, the development plan in question is analyzed and evaluated regarding urban resilience against the effects of disasters and climate change.

In the study titled "Public Administration Discipline and Future Perspective: Evaluation of Türkiye", the concept and scope of public administration are discussed. The development of the Turkish public administration discipline is examined. The study also attempts to create a perspective for the future of the Turkish public administration discipline.

I hope that this book, which deals with some of the current practices and issues in public administration, will provide important insights and contributions to its readers. I would like to thank all the authors who contributed to the content of the book for their efforts. I would also like to thank the owners and colleagues of Özgür Press, who undertook the publication of the book, for their meticulous, fast and devoted contributions.
