Synopsis
With the rapid digitalization experienced, the twenty-first century is now defined together with information and communication technologies. The increasing data rate and automation level transform jobs and create new business models and ways of working. These newly emerging jobs also transform and change career management with new skills and competencies. New skill sets, referred to as digital competencies and skills, are defined and new career management strategies are developed based on these skills. In this study, the literature was reviewed qualitatively and the effects of digital transformation on career management in the twenty-first century were examined through the skills and competencies required by the digital age. As a result of this review, it is seen that while the demand for technical skills such as artificial intelligence expertise and big data analysis increases with increasing data and automation, social and human competencies such as communication and collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving and analytical learning are at least as important and valuable as technical skills. Therefore, it is recommended that businesses and employees adopt a lifelong learning strategy to acquire the skills required by the digital transformation age against the risk of their existing knowledge becoming obsolete and outdated.
