Synopsis

Poverty, which starts before birth and affects the entire life of an individual, significantly affects health and health outcomes. It affects the whole society, but it especially deeply affects women and children. 1 in 10 women in the world live in extreme poverty and are more likely to face serious social problems such as social exclusion and violence. In addition, when women's poverty is viewed from a broader perspective, it is an important topic of discussion because women can be significantly negatively affected from a gender-based perspective. Women's limited employment opportunities, low income and education levels, problems in accessing health services and lack of other social advantages are among the reasons why women become poor. Recent studies have shown that women experience poverty differently than men and that more women live in poverty. Midwives are one of the main practitioners of women's health care services. When providing health care services to poor women, it is very important for midwives to act according to the principle that everyone benefits from equal health care and to adopt a fair approach towards poor individuals and their families, not forgetting that they may need much more support than others.
