Synopsis
In the Industry 4.0 era, where technologies such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, cyber physical systems and big data are integrated into business processes, radical changes are taking place in the production and service sectors. In other words, digital transformation triggered by Industry 4.0 technologies, which correspond to more efficient, flexible and customised production processes, is seen as a strategic transformation process that leads to disruptive changes in businesses and affects all business processes. At this point, the phenomenon of leadership is also changing and the transformation emerging with Industry 4.0 requires going beyond traditional leadership approaches and leaders with digital competencies to come to the fore. As a matter of fact, the phenomenon of leadership for digital transformation is at the heart of many discussions on digitalisation in today's business world and the concept of digital leadership comes to the fore. Digital leadership is defined as a leadership approach that directs digital transformation processes and enables organisations to adapt to the changing digital world and compete by using innovative technologies strategically. However, digital leaders are not only associated with managing technology, but also encourage a culture of continuous learning by establishing a balance between people, process and technology. Therefore, the role of digital leadership in Industry 4.0 is very important and it will be valuable for the business world to clearly identify the characteristics that digital leaders should have in order to be successful in the new era. In this context, the concepts of Industry 4.0 and digital leadership are included in the study by conducting a detailed literature review, and then the role of digital leadership in Industry 4.0 is mentioned and the characteristics that digital leaders should have are listed.
