Synopsis
People began to live collectively in line with their needs for each other to survive. In order for these communities to become functional, they needed guidance and talented, strong leaders have emerged over the centuries. Many issues such as the qualities of these leaders, how they emerged, and why they became leaders have begun to be researched.
Throughout history, researchers have made a lot of effort to define leadership, developed many approaches, and still continue to develop and research. Because leadership must emerge with different needs depending on the period and the structure of the organization.
It becomes necessary to conduct new leadership research in order to establish competitive advantage in changing environmental conditions in an environment where distances are shortening and borders are disappearing with the speed of information and technology changes experienced today. In this context, this study analyzed the leadership research conducted today and revealed the most commonly seen and researched leadership types and their characteristics.
By comparing leadership types and characteristics from past to present, the developing and changing leadership structure is explained. Additionally, the impact of technology on leadership was examined and the relationship between digital leadership and artificial intelligence and leadership was explained. In line with the research results, the questions of what today's leaders should be and how they will change in the future have been answered.
