Synopsis
This study aims to determine the relationship between stock returns and housing prices in Turkey. In this context, monthly data between January 2010 and December 2023 were analyzed using the Granger Causality test, which is one of the econometric time series analysis methods. In line with the purpose of the study, variables constructed from BIST 100 Index data representing stock returns and Housing Price Index data representing housing prices were used. The findings of the study reveal that stock returns affect house prices, but house prices do not affect stock returns. In other words, it is concluded that there is a one-way causality relationship between stock returns and housing prices. The results obtained from this study are expected to enable investors and other market actors to make more informed and effective decisions by better understanding the possible effects of stock returns on house prices. Moreover, these findings are expected to contribute to the understanding of the relationship between stock returns and house prices and contribute to the literature in this field.
