Synopsis
Travel and tourism behavior have been in constant change throughout history. Particularly after the Second World War, the increase in individual car ownership has led to the greater use of motorized vehicles. Unlike mass tourism, vehicles such as automobiles, caravans, motorcycles, and off-road vehicles allow individuals to incorporate individuality, independence, and freedom into the travel process. The form of tourism known as self-driving tourism, which is conducted on highways using motorized vehicles, is characterized by features such as the independent determination of routes, intense interaction with nature and culture, and direct engagement with local communities and economic units. As a form of alternative tourism, self-driving tourism is increasingly gaining attention, with a growing number of participants. This study aims to examine the concept of self-driving tourism, which has been the subject of limited research, in terms of its scope, content, relationship with alternative tourism, network structure, and subtypes.
