Synopsis

Tourism sector, contributes positively to environmental, economic, and socio-cultural aspects; however, due to its rapid growth and increasing visitor numbers, it can also lead to negative outcomes such as environmental degradation, cultural erosion, and depletion of resources. This situation underscores the significance of sustainable tourism and necessitates the development of visitor management strategies. Visitor management can be defined as a set of strategies aimed at regulating visitor flows in accordance with the carrying capacity of tourist destinations, preventing environmental deterioration, and preserving socio-cultural values.

This chapter focuses on the role of visitor management in ensuring sustainability in tourism and elaborates on the visitor management strategies implemented in this context. The benefits of implementing these strategies are examined within the framework of various dimensions of sustainability. Additionally, the tools used within the scope of visitor management strategies are also mentioned. In conclusion, it is emphasized that the effective implementation of visitor management strategies can help balance the environmental, socio-cultural, and economic impacts of tourism. Through appropriate visitor management practices, it is possible to enhance the quality of visitor experiences, protect destinations, and thus achieve sustainability in tourism.
