Synopsis

Breast milk is the most important source of nutrients in infant nutrition. The microbiota in breast milk is an important source of microbiota for the infant gut. Breast milk contains different types of colony bacteria. These different types of bacteria may vary depending on the way breast milk is expressed and stored. After expressing, breast milk can be stored at room temperature for 3 hours, on the shelf of the refrigerator at +40C for 3 days and at -180C for 3 months according to the procedure of the Ministry of Health. The microbial change in breast milk varies no matter how it is stored. Although some studies in the literature show that this change is in the direction of decrease, some emphasize that it does not change. In addition to microbial change, bacterial increase is also affected by the storage method. Contamination during milking for storage reduces the bactericidal effect of breast milk. When the studies are examined, it is emphasized that breast milk should be given fresh if possible, and if storage is necessary, it should be milked and stored under appropriate conditions.
