Synopsis
The effects of the method of birth on breastfeeding success and the mother's perception of self-efficacy in breastfeeding have been increasingly researched in recent years. The effects of different birth methods, such as vaginal birth and cesarean section, on early interaction between mother and baby and the breastfeeding process have become an important research topic. It is known that vaginal birth encourages immediate skin-to-skin contact and early breastfeeding attempts between mother and baby in the postpartum period, thus increasing breastfeeding success. On the other hand, it is stated that this natural process may be interrupted in cesarean section, the mother's feelings of competence in breastfeeding may weaken, and this situation may lead to a shortening of the breastfeeding period. Breastfeeding self-efficacy is defined as the mother's self-confidence in the breastfeeding process and her ability to successfully manage this process. This sense of self-efficacy has a direct effect on the mother's motivation to continue breastfeeding. Skin-to-skin contact, when initiated immediately after birth, can increase the mother's breastfeeding self-efficacy and contribute to a positive breastfeeding experience. Midwife-nurse support and education play a vital role in the successful implementation of the breastfeeding process. Professional support and guidance provided to mothers in the postpartum period helps overcome difficulties encountered in breastfeeding and strengthens the mother's self-efficacy. This support is especially critical for mothers who have had a cesarean section. In this section, the role of the mode of delivery on breastfeeding success and self-efficacy will be discussed in detail; the advantages of vaginal delivery, the potential difficulties of cesarean delivery, and the importance of midwife-nurse support will be emphasized.
