Synopsis
The internationalization process provides commercial enterprises with growth and competitive advantage but also brings challenges such as cultural differences, legal regulations, financial risks, and social impacts. Social Impact Assessment (SIA) emerges as a tool that helps businesses analyze the social outcomes of their activities, enabling them to manage their impacts on society, the environment, and local economies. This study highlights the importance of SIA practices in the internationalization process for aligning enterprises with global and international human rights-based policy documents. Documents published by organizations such as the United Nations, OECD, World Bank, and the European Union instill corporate social responsibility awareness in businesses, demonstrating that companies not aligned with these guidelines are likely to face difficulties achieving sustainable success in international markets. SIA guides companies in line with these documents’ objectives, providing a competitive advantage to those that comply. This study discusses how SIA can enable commercial enterprises to manage social impacts in their international operations and achieve sustainable competitive advantage.
