Artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science that focuses on creating intelligent machines that can think and act like humans. Artificial intelligence systems are designed to learn from their environment and make decisions based on the data they receive. One of the most well-known artificial intelligence systems, ChatGPT, is a natural language processing (NLP) system that can create human-like conversations. In this study, it was aimed to examine ChatGPT's news in The New York Times Newspaper with sentiment analysis. A mixed method was used in the examination of the news using the Orange Data Mining program. Between January 1, 2022 and March 24, 2024, news in The New York Times Newspaper that included the phrase "ChatGPT" were sorted and collected with the help of the "Orange Data Mining" program. The relevant dates cover the period when ChatGPT was made available for mass access. The Orange Data Mining program provides data mining and open source machine learning services and has modules that can both collect and analyze big data.
When the news was categorized, it was determined that the news was mostly in the technology and briefing category. 63% of the news containing the phrase “ChatGPT” contained positive sentiment, 31% negative sentiment, and 6% neutral sentiment. It was also determined that ChatGPT news was seen most in the giant technology countries of the USA and China. The most used words in the news were ChatGPT, briefing, openai, chatbot, google, microsoft, etc. In general, this study provides valuable information about the sentiments of ChatGPT users and contributes to the literature on the use of large language models.
