Looking At the City: Karaman from a Visual Sociology Window
Synopsis
In this book titled Looking at the City: Karaman from a Visual Sociology Window, urban memories, urban images and everyday life practices of Karaman citizens are tried to be understood via pictures of the city and the citizens’ experiences. It is put forward that significant sociological data can be reached by moving from the visible sides of the “urban as a whole of images” space. Since this is a comprehension and explore based research, qualitative research method is preferred, and extensive interviews are carried with 41 participants. Within the research which is a blend of visual sociology and qualitative research method, a Karaman city photographs album is designed so as to make use of during interviews. This album and semi-structured interview form are used together. Due to the data emerged from interviews, themes based on urban memory, urban images and everyday life are generated. In the context of these themes data gathered from Karaman citizens are interpreted.
