Turkish Music and Gaziantep Music Culture in Gaziantep Culture Journal
Synopsis
Gaziantep has a deep-rooted history and culture as it has been home to various civilisations throughout history. Its music culture also has a multi-faceted structure that has been developing from past to present. Gaziantep's unique music is rich both in terms of Turkish music and local music practices. Various publications, in which many information such as music performers, traditional practices of music, and composers are conveyed, undertake the task of transferring the city's past to the present. Gaziantep Kültür, a journal published between 1957 and 1973 with a total of 154 issues and 13 volumes, allows us to learn from a concert held in those years to the works in the concert. The journal covers every subject related to Gaziantep. Many topics such as the political and economic situation of the city, professional groups of the period, educational institutions, traditional flavours, important historical buildings and places of the city, and important names reveal the 1900s of the city. In terms of music culture, Gaziantep's local music culture has been written about since its publication in 1957, going back to the earliest dates that can be remembered. From today's perspective, it can be said that it is a notebook of 70-80 years of music culture history. This journal, which contains many cultures such as which musical events were held in the city on which special days, important names and composers who contributed to this field, the lyrics of Gaziantep-specific works, shows traditions that are not practiced today but can be revived. In this study, it brings together mûsikî information in various forms such as mûsikî news, articles, interviews and letters in Gaziantep Kültür, and presents accessible information about the subjects and authors of the articles. The study provides easy access to all information about music in Gaziantep Kültür and aims to support the transfer of traditional music culture to the present day.
