Synopsis

Economic growth is important for all countries in the world in economic, social and cultural terms. The disappearance of international borders and the economic transformations that have taken place along with the globalization process have brought about the change in the determinants of economic growth. Technological developments play an active role in ensuring economic growth, which is one of the main determinants of the development levels of countries. Since R&D activities are one of the factors that bring about technological developments, R&D expenditures are important in ensuring economic growth and its sustainability. In this context, in this study, the relationship between R&D expenditures and economic growth in G-8 countries was examined by panel data analysis method using the 1996-2021 period data set. In the findings, it was determined that there was a cointegration relationship between the variables. In addition, it was determined that there was a one-way causality relationship from economic growth to R&D expenditures in the period in question.
