Synopsis
Unemployment, as in the rest of the world, emerges as a significant problem in our country, creating serious negative effects on economic growth and social welfare. This study aims to provide a general assessment of the concept and types of unemployment, as well as the reasons for unemployment in Turkey, focusing on changes in unemployment rates between 1990 and 2023. The study covers the role of demographic groups such as youth and women in unemployment, alongside the effects of factors like globalization, the informal economy, and rapid population growth on the phenomenon of unemployment.
When the unemployment, youth unemployment, and women's unemployment rates in Turkey between 1990 and 2023 are examined, it becomes evident that the solution to unemployment requires not only economic growth but also the implementation of structural reforms and policies based on gender equality.
