Synopsis

The aim of the study is to examine the work stress and burnout levels of physical education teachers in terms of some demographic variables (age, gender, professional experience, education level, marital status, some relationships of professional members with sports).

The research consisted of 39 women and 101 men working in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the 2022-2023 academic year within the borders of Kırklareli province; The study was conducted on 140 physical education teachers in total. Work stress scale with personal information form; A scale consisting of 10 statements prepared by Aktaş (1996) was used. Burnout scale; The scale, which was prepared by Christina Maslach (1981) and adapted into Turkish by Ergin (1992) and consisting of 3 dimensions and 22 statements, was used. SPSS 24.0 package program was used for data analysis. Independent-Samples t-test was used to determine the relationship between work stress levels and burnout scale sub-dimensions and two different independent variables, and the One-Way Anova test to determine the relationship between three or more independent variables and work stress levels and burnout scale sub-dimensions. Correlation analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between the results of the study and the job stress level and the sub-dimensions of the burnout scale. The difference between the variables was interpreted considering the significance level of p<.050.

Findings: According to the findings, it was determined that the burnout level was higher in young teachers (under 30 years old). It has been observed that female individuals have a higher burnout level than male individuals. It was found that there was no significant difference between job stress levels in terms of gender variable.

Conclusions: In the study, the average of the answers given by the participants to the burnout scale resulted as "Sometimes". A sense of “hidden burnout” has been identified here. In terms of sub-dimensions of burnout, the average of Emotional Exhaustion and depersonalization was measured to be higher.
