Sustainability and Qualitative Research in Sport Management
Synopsis
The concept of sustainability has become an increasingly important approach in the world of sport management in recent years. Managing sports organisations, clubs and organisations in a sustainable manner plays a critical role in securing the future world of sport, both environmentally, socially and economically. Sustainability in sport encompasses not only direct environmentally friendly practices, but also the social impacts, ethical values and economic dimensions of sport. In this context, it has become an inevitable need for sports organisations to develop long-term strategies and set sustainability goals.
Sustainability in sport is shaped on three main components: environmental, social and economic. Environmental sustainability can be achieved through strategies such as reducing the energy consumption of sports facilities, using environmentally friendly technologies and minimising the carbon footprint of events. Social sustainability includes goals such as contributing to public health, encouraging young people to participate in sports and creating an egalitarian structure in society. Economic sustainability addresses the commercial aspects of sport, enabling clubs and organisations to survive financially, diversify their sources of income and maintain their competitiveness.
At this point, qualitative research stands out as an important tool in understanding and developing sustainability practices in sport. Qualitative research methods make it possible to examine different dimensions of sustainability in sport management in depth. Qualitative methods such as participant observation, interviews, case studies and document analysis allow us to better understand the internal dynamics of sustainability practices of sport organisations. Through qualitative research, questions such as which sustainability strategies are effective in sport management, how these strategies can be implemented and which problems need to be overcome can be answered.
For example, a qualitative research examining the environmentally friendly practices of a sports club can better reveal the relationship between management decisions and public perception. Similarly, qualitative methods can be used to understand how a sport organisation's social responsibility projects contribute to social change. Such studies form the basis for improving current practices in the field of sustainability as well as creating long-term change in the world of sport.
In conclusion, the integration of sustainability understanding into management processes in sport is of vital importance for the future of sport. The effective execution of this process can be supported by in-depth analyses provided by qualitative research. In our presentation, we will address these issues in detail and discuss how sustainability in sport and qualitative research come together.
In this book, there are 8 chapters from 4 different universities in this scientific research book where we discuss more sustainable sport management and qualitative research in sport with valuable research.
In addition, this book is the first book of our Sustainable Sport and Qualitative Research Series.
We hope that it will be a research book that will add great scientific meaning to the literature.
