Motivation Theory and Practice in Sport Current Overview with Bibliometrics

Synopsis

The aim of this study is to examine motivation theories and practices in sport with the help of bibliometric analysis. In line with this purpose, results such as related co-authors, citation index of countries, citation links of countries and the most preferred keywords were obtained about the concept of motivation in sport in the Web of Science database through the VOSviewer program.

In the first phase of the review on the concept of "motivation in sport" in the Web of Science (WOS) database (as of March 2, 2024), 9166 results were reached between 1980-2024. However, in order to obtain more specific results for the analysis, when the information was narrowed down as only research articles, 8013 works were reached, when the WOS category was narrowed down as only the basic field of sports sciences, 2347 works were reached, when the publication language was narrowed down as only English, 2185 works were reached, when narrowed down as WOS index (SSCI=1603, SSCI-Expanded=1789, ESCI=1663, AHCI=4), 1789 works were reached, and when narrowed down as the last 10 years, 1149 works were reached. As a result of these applications, 1149 works were included in the scope of the research and the relevant analyzes were carried out.
