Synopsis
Regular exercise during pregnancy has positive effects on maternal and fetal health. Maternal effects of regular exercise during pregnancy; reducing the risk of gestational diabetes, preventing excess weight gain and increasing the possibility of vaginal birth. Fetal effects; The risk of having a macrosomic baby is reduced and the risk of chronic diseases is reduced. Effect on the birth process and birth method; The shortening of birth time, the decrease in epidural anesthesia and cesarean section rates, and the increase in the possibility of vaginal birth.
Physical exercise increases muscle strength, provides flexibility, increases endurance and helps perform routine activities. We can examine physical exercise as aerobic exercise, resistance exercise and breathing exercise. Aerobic exercise is rhythmic activities in which large muscle groups are active. Resistance exercise increases muscle strength and improves cardiovascular health. Breathing exercise also has positive effects on the woman and the fetus during the labor process, with both its physical and meditative aspects.
Midwives should explain to pregnant women the benefits of regular exercise during pregnancy and help them create appropriate exercise programs. It is important for pregnant women to check their heart rate while implementing exercise programs and to consult a healthcare professional in case of health problems. Thus, women who want to exercise regularly during pregnancy can maximize the health of mother and baby.
