Synopsis
Carpets are one of the most essential goods of living areas and have been used since ancient times. Wool fiber has always had a high prestige in both handmade and machine-made carpet production, however, with the supplying of fiber cannot keep up with the increasing consumption demand, the high cost and consumer expectations favoring more functional products, synthetic fibers have begun to be preferred rather than natural fibers as the pile yarn material in machine-made carpet for many years. The mainly preferred synthetic fibers used in pile yarn production are polypropylene, acrylic, polyamide and polyester. Each polymer has a specific character and has advantages/disadvantages compared to each other in terms of their performance in carpet use. In this study, the effects of the physical and mechanical properties of synthetic polymers on the usage performance of carpet pile yarn were evaluated.
