Synopsis
Spain is the second largest country in the European Union and Western Europe after France. Spain's form of government is a monarchy based on parliamentary democracy. There are targets planned to be achieved by the end of 2026 within the scope of the Spanish government's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. These plans also include important components in terms of disaster management, such as urban mobility, coastal security, strengthening the national health system, fair and inclusive energy, resilient infrastructure and ecosystems. Spain's disaster management is determined by certain institutions and organizations. There are certain laws for disaster management and strategies are determined within the framework of these laws. In case of disasters (floods, forest fires, earthquakes and tsunamis, volcanic, adverse weather events, accidents occurring in facilities or processes where hazardous substances are used or stored, transportation of hazardous substances by road and rail, nuclear and radiological events), steps are taken in accordance with these laws. Spain's Civil Protection System is a public service that protects people and property, aiming at effective response to natural or man-made emergencies and disasters, whether intentional or spontaneous, as an instrument of public security policy. The National Emergency Monitoring and Coordination Center is a strategic center that provides service every day of the year and creates information and warnings at the national level in case of disasters and emergencies. It works in cooperation with regional and international coordination centers. The Canary Islands are archipelagos located in the Atlantic Ocean of Spain, formed as a result of volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. On the Canary Islands side, the Regional Plan for Civil Protection of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, approved by the government in 2015, has been published. Special Plans are created for each risk (floods, earthquakes, chemicals, hazardous material transportation, forest fires, volcanic, tsunamis, etc.).
