Reminiscence Therapy and Group Psychological Counseling Program Experiences for Martyrs' Mothers

Synopsis

Remember; It is the remembering of something that was known before and forgotten later. Reminiscence therapy is a type of intervention developed for individuals in old age, protecting their psychological well-being, improving their lives, and making use of memories for this purpose. Reminiscence is a structured process that involves individuals not only remembering their past experiences but also re-evaluating them, finding the meaning of their lives, resolving conflict situations and reviewing their coping skills. In this study, reminiscence therapy is discussed in the light of the literature and an example of a program for mothers of martyrs is presented. Group psychological counseling; It was structured as 6 sessions with the participation of 12 mothers of martyrs. Each session lasted an average of 90 minutes. The content of the group psychological counseling sessions included topics such as structuring, the place of childhood, childhood games, school period, youth period, married life, birth of children and relationships with children, favorite places, unforgettable happy moments. The participants' shares were evaluated through interviews within the framework of the topics covered in the sessions. As a result of the interviews, the mothers of martyrs evaluated that the group psychological counseling program focused on reminiscence therapy had a positive contribution to their lives.
