Synopsis
Although it seems to be the result of individual preferences, marriage is a social phenomenon. Marriage, which has been shaped in various forms and with various practices depending on many variables in the historical process, is also considered the basis of the family institution. From past to present, marriage has been seen as the guarantee of the continuation of human existence. Marriage, which means the legal, religious and social approval of the union of a man and a woman, is also a multifaceted process that includes kinship relations. Relationships established through the bond of marriage include individuals in a new kinship system. Thus, marriage in a sense means the establishment of new social alliances. Marriage, which gains meaning within the unique social and cultural values of each society, affects not only the lives of men and women but also the social structure. Marriage, which is also seen as one of the basic dynamics of individuals' transition to adulthood, brings new social roles and responsibilities. The recognition of the union of men and women through the institution of the family places marriage in an important position in the maintenance of society. Today, this phenomenon, which is at the centre of many debates, appears in different ways with the effect of changing social conditions and dynamics. The aim of this study is to present a theoretical framework of homogamy marriage, which is a type of marriage based on the social aspect of marriage.
