Synopsis

Ahmed Şuayb's academic contributions on "Ulum-i İktisadiye ve İçtimaiye Mecmuası" provide an important window into the development of sociological thought in the late Ottoman Empire and the socio-economic context of the period. Şuayb's sociological perspective is based on an evolutionary perspective when dealing with social change.

The influence of geographical factors on social structure plays an important role in his work. According to him, the geographical characteristics of a society influence the forms of governance and the behavior of individuals. The concept of division of labor also stands out as a fundamental element of Shuayb's approach. He believes that the division of labor creates a harmonious functioning between social units and he considers it as a factor shaping the social structure.

Instead of explaining social development solely in terms of economic growth, Şuayb focuses on the relationship between the economy and the social order. Understanding and evaluating the link between the economy and social structure is central to his work. His view of societies as living organisms emphasizes the idea that social change is a continuous evolutionary process. Ahmed Şuayb's work reflects an attempt to understand the impact of the discipline of sociology on Ottoman society and other social structures. His evolutionary perspective contributes to a better understanding of social change by utilizing basic concepts such as the impact of geographical factors on social structure and the relationship between economy and social order.
