Synopsis
All measures taken to prevent, report and analyze undesirable events during the provision of health care services and to eliminate or reduce the problems caused by errors in patients include patient safety. Ensuring and maintaining patient safety in healthcare institutions is a difficult and long process. The World Health Organization, an international organization, regularly publishes guides that guide healthcare institutions in ensuring and maintaining patient safety. At the same time, the International Accreditation Agency (The Joint Commission) guides healthcare institutions in ensuring and maintaining patient safety by publishing patient safety targets every year. In Turkey, the Ministry of Health carries out studies on patient safety to ensure and maintain staff safety. In this context, patient safety targets are published within the scope of quality standards in health. Hospital managers should make practices and regulations in the light of these guidelines to ensure and maintain patient safety in their institutions.
