Synopsis

Organizational agility is explained as the ability of an organization to adapt quickly and effectively to changes in its environment in order to maintain its competitive advantage (Olbert, et al., 2017, p.7).The concept of organizational agility has gained importance especially in recent years with the struggle of organizations to survive against unpredictable changes in the world. Disaster management is a form of management that enables individuals to be aware of the natural and human disasters occurring in their environment, to have information about disasters and to be unaffected or minimally affected by disasters in case of recurrence (Erkal and Değerliyurt, 2009, p. 151). Since disasters are events that occur suddenly at unpredictable moments with unexpected speeds, agility is one of the factors that are effective in ensuring that the organization is ready at all times and has a structure that can respond to change in terms of disaster management. As a result, organizational agility in terms of disaster management is an extremely important concept in terms of the organization's readiness against all situations, risks and dangers and having a flexible structure that can respond quickly to the needs demanded from the organization. In this book chapter, information on the concepts of disaster management, organizational agility, the relationship between them and the importance of organizational agility for disaster management will be given.
