Synopsis

Architectural tourism is an important type of tourism that enhances the tourism potential of destinations by attracting tourists' interest in historical and modern architectural structures. When examining the evolution of this type of tourism from the past to the present, it is emphasized that tourist destinations make efforts to attract tourists by using architectural structures and that these structures enhance their competitiveness. This phenomenon, referred to as the "Bilbao Effect" in the literature, demonstrates how striking architectural buildings can increase tourism potential. Evaluating architectural structures as tourist attractions can be said to have a highly positive impact on tourism demand, income, and destination development. Therefore, by promoting collaboration between the tourism industry and the field of architecture, this study can establish a solid foundation for future research and projects, contributing to the growth of this type of tourism in the future.
