Synopsis
R&D activities, which are critical for technological developments, can contribute to economic growth by enabling the production of new products, production processes and services, and hence competitiveness. R&D activities can also be effective in reducing unemployment by creating new job opportunities, allocating resources to training and skills development programs, and supporting economic growth. Today, the use of high-tech products in almost all sectors and the interest of young people in the use of high-tech products bring to mind that R&D expenditures, which are critical in the production of these products, may be beneficial in reducing youth unemployment. As a matter of fact, in this study, a qualitative research was conducted on the effect of R&D expenditures on reducing youth unemployment, which has become a chronic problem in Turkey. ChatGBT, an artificial intelligence robot that is a product of R&D activities, was used in the research and a total of twenty-five questions were asked to ChatGBT under three headings: R&D, youth unemployment and the impact of R&D expenditures on youth unemployment. When the answers of ChatGBT to the questions posed are evaluated, it is concluded that R&D expenditures can reduce youth unemployment in the long run. Based on this finding, suggestions have been made to reduce youth unemployment within the scope of R&D activities. It is expected that revealing the effects of R&D activities on employment with artificial intelligence, which is one of the latest technology products developed as a result of R&D activities, will bring a very different perspective to the researched issue. In addition, the fact that there has not been a study investigating the relevant research topic using artificial intelligence before adds originality to the study and in this sense, the study is expected to contribute to the literature.
