Developments in the world and the effects of globalization also affect industries. The dizzying transformation experienced in the changing and developing world has brought along new searches and perspectives in developing and developing countries. The problem of regional inequality, which emerged with the industrial revolution and deepened with the effects of globalization, has taken its place as an important problem in world economies. The solutions, models and theories developed at the point of regional development are examined in disciplines such as political science and sociology as well as economics within social sciences. New industrial centers as an argument that can play a role in the solution of regional inequality from the perspective of economic science constitute the subject of this study. Many dynamics within the concept of regional development, which is examined as a process, such as the creation of new job opportunities, increasing the level of livability and supporting industry with incentives constitute important building blocks of this process. From this point of view, the new industrial center, which includes many dynamics such as reducing regional inequality, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, increasing specialization and ensuring sustainability, constitutes an important issue to be considered.

This study first examines the concept of regional development. Then, it discusses the concept of new industrial center, which has taken its place in the literature as an important concept in the regional development process, and its importance in the case of Gaziantep province. While the concept of new industrial center is examined together with its definition, characteristics and criteria, the statistical dimension of the study is strengthened by the data of Gaziantep province as an example of new industrial center. The conclusion reached in the study is that new industrial centers should be supported and developed in order to reduce inequalities between regions and to ensure the competitiveness of provinces at both national and international level.
