Synopsis
Turkish states established in Central Asia could not have naval forces due to geographical conditions of the region. Except that the Ghaznavids, one of the first Muslim-Turkish states, had a fleet in the Indus River and the Kerman Seljuks Sultan Kavurd had several ships in the Umman Sea, it could be said that the maritime activities of the Turks were almost non-existent until their arrival in Anatolia. With Çaka Bey's conquest of İzmir in 1081, a significant first step was taken in Turkish maritime history; Owing to the modern shipyard built here, the city had been transformed into a naval base complex. The death of Çaka Bey in 1095, who gave relentless battles against the Byzantine navy in the Aegean Sea with the naval forces he established in İzmir, slowed down the development of Turkish maritime, which was a rising value back then, and extended the life of Byzantine Empire for a few more centuries.
