Economic Development - Income Inequality: Theory, Policy and Practice
Synopsis
The problem of inequality in the distribution of income, which has been growing day by day since the era of industrialization, which coincides with the emergence of economics as a science, threatens social peace and damages the sense of justice. When the wealth that society covets causes social objection, it can lead to unrest, instability, and moral decline. In order to solve or reduce the impact of this problem, which has become more apparent in recent years, it is necessary to identify the factors that create the problem. To this end, there is a large literature consisting of studies that measure the effects of certain variables, especially income. This study, which aims to make a new contribution to the literature, attempts to determine the impact of the Human Development Index on income distribution. In the empirical part of the study, various econometric methods are applied and the results obtained for Turkey as well as for developed and developing countries are evaluated separately and comparatively.
