Synopsis

The concept of democracy, which is directly or indirectly affected by all political, social and economic developments in the modern world, has made it necessary to address and reflect on the issue in business life. It is known that the studies on organisational democracy are increasing in the literature, but it is also known that the difficulties encountered in the implementation of this concept are discussed together with its contributions to organisations. In this context, firstly the concepts of democracy and organisational democracy are defined in this chapter, and then the elements of organisational democracy such as participation, criticism, transparency, justice, equality and accountability are mentioned. Again, organisational democracy models frequently mentioned in the literature are examined and some difficulties encountered during the implementation of organisational democracy are given. Finally, some advantages and disadvantages of organisational democracy are mentioned and the results of some studies in the literature on organisational democracy are listed. Studies on organisational democracy are increasing in the literature. However, it is thought that there is a need for more theoretical and empirical studies on the concept of organisational democracy in terms of both organisations and employees.
