Synopsis
Social network theory is one of the approaches used to explain the behavior of senior managers in recent years. Despite the increasing interest in social network theory, there are very few studies on the social networks of senior executives (especially CEOs) in the Turkish literature. The deficiency prevents foreseeing the purposes for which senior managers use social networks and what results in social networks cause for organizations. Within the scope of this research it is aimed to summarize the advantages and disadvantages of CEO social networks for organizations and to create a discussion agenda about CEO social networks. The social network theory was examined in the research, and the results on the advantages and disadvantages of CEO social networks for organizations were compiled. As a result of the research, it has been argued that the few studies in the Turkish literature need to be more comprehensive to evaluate the positive or negative consequences of social networks of senior managers to organizations. In addition, suggestions are presented to benefit from the advantages of social networks and to protect themselves from their disadvantages. Finally, the study concluded with recommendations for future research on social networks.
