Synopsis
The aim of this study is to determine whether the fear of missing out on developments in social media, which is indispensable today, has an effect on burnout. For this purpose, data were obtained from 148 university students. SPSS and AMOS programs were used to analyze the data. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to test the construct validity of the scales. In addition, correlation analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between the variables, regression analysis to determine the effect between them, and t-test and one-way variance analysis to determine whether there is a difference between the variables in terms of demographic characteristics. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that fear of missing developments in social media (FoMO) and its sub-dimensions, Personal FoMO and Social FoMO, positively affect burnout. As a result, as FoMO increases in Generation Z, burnout levels also increase. It was determined that students studying in the postal services program had higher levels of both personal FoMO and burnout levels than students studying in maritime and port management.
