Synopsis
Today, together with digital transformation technologies, nutrition, physical activity and exercise habits are also changing and developing. In particular, this situation clearly reveals the necessity of integrating metaverse technology, which is one of the new technological trends, with nutrition and sports. Because the interaction between nutrition, physical activity and technology is important for athletes. In this respect, sports, nutrition and digital transformation are among the most striking issues. When the previous studies are examined, it is determined that there are deficiencies in the research subject in the literature. This study is a unique study in terms of investigating and determining the effect of metaverse on athlete nutrition and athlete health. Therefore, the main purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of digital transformation in the sports industry on athlete performance and nutrition. In this direction, the effects of industry 4.0 and metaverse on athlete health and nutrition are presented in a theoretical framework by using secondary data. As a result of the study, it is determined that sports and health are interdisciplinary fields of study. The direct relationship between sports and health brings along a long and healthy life. It has been found that nutrition plays an important role in improving the performance and productivity of athletes. In this direction, it is concluded that the changes and transformations experienced in industry 4.0 will contribute to the nutrition, health and performance of the athletes. However, with industry 4.0, the effect of the metaverse on athlete nutrition and athlete health cannot be clearly determined. Because in some studies it is stated that the metaverse provides advantages in subjects such as nutrition, communication, interaction, teamwork, exercise, recreational activity, while in some studies it is stated that it provides a disadvantage in subjects such as social anxiety, nutrition, health, physical activity and exercise. The widespread use of metaverse technology will bring addiction. In this case, recreational activities may adversely affect the health and nutrition of athletes. Therefore, according to the results of the conceptual analysis, it is suggested that there are uncertainties in the literature on the subject and that a study should be conducted on the research subject. In addition, it is recommended to organize trainings that will contribute to the gaining of healthy eating habits of athletes on the metaverse platform, which is the virtual world. At the same time, it is foreseen that the use of mixed research methods in researches on the subject will contribute to the literature.
