The Effects of Transportation Infrastructures on Economic Growth in Turkey
Synopsis
Transportation, one of the areas of logistics, is a system that constitutes an essential part of daily life and enables economic and social existence. In developing countries, it is not possible to achieve development goals such as urbanization, industrialization and exports without transportation. Therefore, infrastructure development is an indispensable component of public policies in developing countries. In Turkey, in the infrastructure investments made in the years 2003-2021 within the transportation systems, the highest share belongs to the highway first and then the railway. This book examines the concept of economic growth through the perspective of transportation, which is one of the fields of activity of logistics. The first chapter provides information about logistics and the fundamental activity of transportation, and it examines five sub-transport types specifically in the context of Turkey. The second chapter elaborates on the concept of economic growth, presents economic growth models, and discusses the relationship between transportation and economic growth. In the third chapter, the models to be examined through empirical analyses planned in the second chapter are introduced, along with the data sets to be used and the econometric methods to be employed. The conclusion section presents the findings obtained from the empirical analyses and discusses these findings in detail.
