Synopsis
It is extremely important that gastronomy is a multidisciplinary branch of science, a reflection of cultures from past to present, and that foods cover the procedure from field to fork. Agriculture, which is a key component in gastronomy, is regarded as a tourism activity. Agro tourism, known as agricultural tourism, has concrete and significant contributions to gastronomy. The activities offered by agro tourism are located in the axis of rural farms and everyday practices. For this reason, this study was deliberative and carried out so as to provide justifications on whether agro tourism is an alternative tourism or a necessary form of tourism within the scope of gastronomy tourism. In the context of gastronomy tourism, agro tourism might be accepted as an important form of tourism because of its contributions and being deemed sustainable. In terms of the sustainability of agro tourism and gastronomy tourism, it is argued that agro tourism is a necessary form of tourism for Turkey rather than an alternative tourism.
