Synopsis
This research was carried out to examine the sports participation motivations of swimmers who are actively engaged in sports under the Kilis Youth Services and Sports Provincial Directorate. The sample group of the research consists of 91 swimmers, 57 male and 34 female, who actively participated in swimming training in the 2022-2023 season. The 'Personal Information Form' was used as a data collection tool, and the 'Sport Participation Motivation Scale' developed by Gill, Gross and Huddleston (1983) and adapted in Turkish by Oyar, Aşçı, Çelebi and Mülazımoğlu (2001). The data obtained in the research were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 22.0 program. Frequency analysis was used to determine the percentage distribution of personal information. While Independent T test was used to analyze the two-category variables, One Way ANOVA analysis was used to compare the scale scores according to demographic variables with more than three categories. In the analyzes used, the level of significance was determined as p<0.05. In the findings, it was observed that there was a statistically significant difference in favor of men in the friendship sub-dimension of the motivation to participate in sports according to the gender variable of the participants (p<0.05). No significant difference was found in terms of variables such as age, year of sport, and purposes of doing sport (p>0.05).
In conclusion; It is seen that the motivation levels of swimmers to participate in sports are high. It has been determined that there is no significant difference on motivation to participate in sports in terms of variables such as age, year of sports and purposes of doing sports.
