Synopsis
In this section, knowledge about the social reflections of gender stereotypes in physical education and sports and their effects on male and female individuals is included. The term stereotype, which has literally been transferred to our language as "stereotype", has been the subject of research in many fields from education to sports. Stereotypes are widely internalized ideas about certain types of individuals and groups for which there is no scientific evidence. Although stereotypes affect individuals in different ways in each society, they generally have similar characteristics. Stereotypes can be directed at social class, race, as well as religion, and gender. Individuals and societies can create some stereotypes about gender over time and attribute them to gender groups. Stereotypes, for example; can have positive and negative effects on an individual's academic achievement, sports performance, or motivation for a physical education course. There are many studies that try to explain the gender differences between men and women in physical education and sports in terms of various variables. One of the subjects of this study includes research to reveal the effects of stereotypes on men and women in this field. It is an object of curiosity how stereotypes affect participation in physical education and sports and physical performance in terms of gender. Although it is seen that the number of studies based on gender stereotypes in the field of physical education and sports in our country is quite low, it can be said that the interest in the subject has increased by researchers around the world. In this research, certain guidelines have been reached by examining the studies on gender stereotypes in both physical education classes and sports.
