Synopsis
The menstrual cycle is a recurring process that affects women in various ways and can have negative impacts on their daily lives. Menstrual pain and hormonal changes are responsible for these effects. It involves interactions between hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, luteinizing hormone, and follicle-stimulating hormone, with estrogen playing a significant role. Each phase of the cycle has an impact on women's mood, emotions, and behaviors. Women experiencing premenstrual syndrome during the menstrual period may undergo severe symptoms that additionally affect their social lives. Women with polycystic ovary syndrome may experience significant delays in menstrual bleeding, leading to insulin resistance and obesity. As a result, this review aims to evaluate the positive effects of nutrition and dietary preferences on the symptoms observed during menstrual cycle phases by conducting a comprehensive review of current literature.
